Our Business Purpose & Values

Our History

1971

Beginnings

In 1971, Joseph M. Fahey founded JM Fahey Construction Company with a focus on quality workmanship, reliability, and service. What began as a small operation built on hard work and integrity laid the foundation for a company that would grow into a trusted heavy civil contractor serving public and private clients across the region.

1979

Milling Starts

JM Fahey entered the cold milling business in 1979, recognizing early that cold milling would become a critical part of the future of roadway construction and rehabilitation. At a time when milling was still emerging as a preferred solution, we invested in the people and equipment needed to self-perform this important first step.

1984

First Asphalt Plant in KCK

In 1984, JM Fahey acquired its first asphalt plant in Kansas City, Kansas. This plant allowed Fahey to work closely with municipalities in Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties, and the Kansas Department of Transportation, on their hot-mix asphalt requirements.

1988

Concrete Paving

JM Fahey next acquired a concrete paving spread that provided additional capabilities for high type slipform concrete paving in 1988. Fahey is especially proud of the fact that our concrete paving operations have won local and national awards for quality in each of the last five decades.

1988

Beyer Crushed Rock

During the summer of 1988 Fahey purchased Beyer Crushed Rock Company, 900 acres of quarry ground in northern Cass County, just south of the metropolitan area. Beyer is a major aggregate supplier to Fahey jobsites and asphalt plants in addition to supplying hundreds of customers throughout the area.

1990’s

Second Plant In KCMO & Growth

JM Fahey purchased a second asphalt plant in Kansas City, Missouri in the spring of 1989 and established a Missouri side asphalt presence. The 1990’s were a period of acclimation and growth for Fahey. Key personnel joined the Company and a new headquarters building was constructed on the Grandview property in 1999.
